During this time, we will continue to work remotely with our partner agencies on emergency Furniture Assistance packages supporting individuals and families doing it tough.

For partner agencies: Please email through your request form and referral and we will be in contact with stock levels, payment options and delivery arrangements.

Thank you for your ongoing support. We look forward to opening again and serving our community as soon as possible.

Second Chances SA will be reaching our five year milestone February 2020, serving those impacted by the criminal justice system especially the innocent victims of crime – the children of prisoners.

Christmas Angels is there to make a difference.

Last year, Christmas Angels provided 632 children and young people across SA with a Christmas present on behalf of their imprisoned parent; providing a much-needed opportunity for children and parents to stay connected in the midst of extremely difficult circumstances.

“As you can imagine, Christmas and Birthdays are difficult and lonely times. What made them a little more bearable was knowing that my children would receive beautiful gifts, knowing that their mum had thought of them and wanted them to have something special on the day.”

Christmas Angels creates a unique opportunity for Dads and Mums to connect with their children – reminding them they are loved and not forgotten.

]]> Getting Ready for Take Off officially launches https://www.secondchances.org.au/getting-ready-for-take-off/ Fri, 27 Sep 2019 03:21:01 +0000 https://www.secondchances.org.au/?p=4128 A local South Australian initiative to improve the employment opportunities of youth and young adults affected by parental imprisonment was officially launched today after it was successful in obtaining federal funding.

Minister for Families and Social Services Anne Ruston (centre) officially launches Getting Ready for Take Off alongside project staff and participants.

Getting Ready for Take Off has been designed to improve participants’ employability by addressing relevant and common barriers.

Helen Glanville, Second Chances SA CEO, said that the children of prisoners can be vulnerable to generational welfare dependency.

“We want to break this family cycle and provide these kids with a chance to learn the importance of work ethic and the value of seeking their own vocational pathway,” Ms Glanville said.

The project consists of a hub each in Morphett Vale and Elizabeth where a Life Coach will work one-on-one with participants to develop an individualised employment or training plan based on their personal barriers and strengths.

Each young person will also participate in group workshops to help develop their self-esteem, problem solving and decision-making skills.

Minister for Families and Social Services Anne Ruston said the innovative project would help tackle disadvantage.

“The Morrison Government is committed to breaking down the barriers Australians face getting back into the workforce to help people gain financial independence and create a better future for themselves and their families,” Minister Ruston said.

“We are funding a range of initiatives to get Australians back on track with their education or work goals.”

Getting Ready for Take Off is funded by the Morrison Government’s Try, Test and Learn Fund.
